In the December meeting of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), the MedPAC commissioners considered a draft recommendation that would reduce the fiscal year 2020 Medicare payment rate for hospice by two percent. In a press release, NHPCO President and CEO Edo Banach responds to the departure from recent years of MedPAC recommending a 0% percent update for hospice reimbursement. “NHPCO leadership is developing a strategy for addressing all of the MedPAC recommendations for hospice that will eventually be released in a report. Additionally, it can be helpful to remind members that MedPAC is an advisory body to Congress and does not change policy on its own accord.” The transcript of the public presentation is available online at the first link below.
