Opioid Legislation Passed by Congress
Congress passes H. R. 6, the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act. The bill is now awaiting the President’s signature. Among the items in this legislation is a provision that allows certain hospice employees to dispose of controlled substance drugs onsite after a patient’s death, currently prohibited under 2014 DEA regulations. But… don’t change your drug disposal practices yet. CMS and the DEA will likely issue guidance about how the law will be implemented.
